This past year I have been given many challenges but also many blessings. I know at times it is really hard to see the good in things. Let's face it, sometimes there are no good in things. Ok, well, maybe if you dig and be really positive then you can find them as hard as it may be at the time. I have to admit that some of the things I have witnessed in the last year has definitely made me a stronger person.
A few months ago, I decided that this single life really sucked and I decided I would like to be happy. Heck, I deserve to be happy right? I started dating and the first few dates were total wastes of my time. I decided that before going on any dates or even talking to anyone, I would take a moment to pray about what was going on in my life and ask for guidance. I have to truly say that after I took this approach, I met one of the nicest guys ever. We started talking and was able to meet face to face. As soon as I saw him, I had this feeling that the relationship was meant to be. I was not sure what more to do so of course I prayed and fasted many times about it. As I prayed, I did not get answers and I became increasingly frustrated. One night as we were talking on the phone, I said that I was not sure where I was headed or what I was supposed to do and Richard asked me what I meant. I said the only answer I am getting is that I need to be happy. It was he who pointed out to me that being happy was indeed my answer. We talked more and more and before long decided we wanted to be married and share our future together. We had both been through many trials and was supportive of each other.
On December 15, he flew to Utah and we had a very nice farewell dinner and then hit the road to drive back to WV to start our lives together. Wow, what an adventure. If there is any one way to really get to know someone, it is definitely spending 48 hrs in the car driving across the country. Mom, Dad and Stephanie came with us to help us drive. We kept rotating drivers to get here as fast as we could. I don't think in all my life I have laughed so hard at some of the conversations and text messages we shared. Oh Stephanie how I am really going to treasure that image of you running around that building when you had to pee and every door was locked.... talk about hilarious. Megan, the comment you made to me, grandma and Richard "Its too dark to color or play the DS and I am too little to drive. Let's just get there already!" We were truly blessed with having excellent weather until the last 2 hrs of driving. We made it to our new home about 7:30pm and the wonderful members of our church come to help us unload the truck and we had it unloaded in hour. Richard's new nickname is muscles being he was like the energizer bunny just going and going. His new nickname for me is jaws being I am always talking. Oh well, I have a lot to say. LOL
On Monday, Dec 19th we were married. It was a nice wedding and thank you to all who have wished us luck in our future. The girls all love Richard and he is so good with them. I really am blessed to have met someone who truly cares for the girls as much as I do.
I know this past year has been a tough one for our family as I have witnessed so many negative things happen but I have also been able to witness a lot of positive things also. Just know that if you keep the faith and think positive, then things will get better in time just as they did for me and my girls. I wish you all a very Merry Christmas!

Jennifer and Richard I am so happy for you both.
ReplyDeleteJennifer you gave me the strength to decide I needed to change me life for the better. I have also met a very special person and fallen in love.
I am going to meet him next weekend and now I am working to be able to go to the temple and be sealed to him next year. Prayers are awesome and we don't always get an answer the way we thought we would. I have prayed about this and know deep in my heart we are to be sealed and I can hardly wait for that day to come. Thanks for inspiring me.
Love,
Mary
